Job Description

Reporting directly to the Dean of the Touro College of Dental Medicine the incumbent will be responsible for the Academic Program and administrative compliance of the College of Dental Medicine.

The Academic Program, consisting of four years of instruction, results in the training, assessing and the assurance of competency of the new oral health care provider in the independent practice dentistry. The Academic Dean will be responsible for the development and management of a curriculum that will be consistently assessed to maintain the curriculum management plan that ensures an ongoing curriculum review and evaluation process including input from faculty, students, administration and other appropriate sources. That there are evaluations of all courses with respect to the defined competencies of the school which include student evaluations of instruction, the elimination of unwarranted repetition, outdated material, and unnecessary material along with the incorporation of emerging information, technology and achievement of appropriate sequencing.

Job Duties

Administratively the Academic Dean, working with the Director of Curriculum Technology, must ensure that all course directors comply with providing students with written information about the goals and requirements of each course, the nature of the course content, the method(s) of evaluation to be used, and how grades and competency are determined. The incumbent, working with and directing the Director of Student Affairs, must also ensure policies and procedures for students who do not meet the didactic, behavioral and/or clinical criteria as published and distributed for academic success are appropriate and that decisions are made in accordance with institutional due process policies.

Required Qualifications

The Office of Academic Affairs at the College of Dental Medicine will be overseen by the Academic Dean and will ensure that the stated goals of the dental education program are focused on educational outcomes. They will define, with the faculty and curriculum committee, the competencies needed for graduation, including the preparation of graduates who possess the knowledge, skills and values to begin the practice of general dentistry. As with all Officers of Instruction the incumbent will be required to participate in teaching and scholarly activity appropriate for the position.
