REPORTS TO: SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS & INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS
STATUS: FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, SALARIED


Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of dean of the School of Business. The dean oversees the School of Business, its academic programming, activities to enhance its profile in and outside the College and its effectiveness. The successful candidate will develop long- and short-range strategic marketing plans that flow from the College's strategic plan. The successful candidate will be responsible for academic program planning, faculty matters, budgeting, facilities management and staffing. The division needs someone who can foster an environment of quality teaching, research and intellectual achievement. Strengthening partnerships within and outside the College is critical. The successful candidate understands the importance of a liberal arts education and can demonstrate a passion for working with students to provide a personalized education. The candidate understands and is open to new models of teaching and learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements growth strategies for the School of Business.

  • Participates in strategic planning processes and leading the School of Business in short-and long-term goal development and implementation of those goals.

  • Develops, articulates, administers and evaluates instructional policies and procedures within the school.

  • Supervises and evaluates faculty/staff members in the performance of their duties.

  • Recruits and recommends permanent and adjunct faculty.

  • Provides day-to-day supervision, coordination and integration of campus-wide assessment, including but not limited to:

  • Supervises personnel who are responsible for assessment in the School of Business.

  • Leads the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) accreditation process.

  • Assumes responsibility for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accreditation process as it applies to the School of Business.

  • Develops/maintains connections in the business community in order to support and sustain enrollment growth in the MBA program and to foster mutually beneficial partnerships for programs in undergraduate business education.

  • Champions the School of Business within the College community.

  • Teaches at least one class per semester in either the undergraduate or graduate program.

  • Serves on college committees as per the faculty handbook and as appointed by the chief academic officer.

  • Provides management, oversight and accountability for the school's budget and fiscal planning.

  • Assists in obtaining grants and in their administration and oversight.

  • Develops and maintains articulation agreements with other higher education institutions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior vice president for academic affairs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctoral degree preferred but applicants with a Master of Business Administration and proven business/marketing experience will be considered. Faculty rank will be determined based upon experience and qualifications.

  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding in:

    • marketing and developing relationships with outside entities

    • Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) accreditation process

    • supervision

  • Demonstrated commitment to shared governance.

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching in a liberal arts college environment.

  • Ability to build consensus among faculty in the School of Business and facilitate communication both within the school and across administrative levels within the institution.
