Position Summary

The Dean is responsible for strategic and fiscal planning, faculty & staff selection, development & evaluation, program development & review, and leadership in the School of Sciences, Humanities & Visual Communications.

Education

*Doctorate or terminal degree in subject area appropriate to School’s programs, OR a master’s degree in subject area appropriate to School’s programs and relevant work experience that qualifies individual to perform functions of the position. (Minimum)
*Doctorate or terminal degree in subject area appropriate to School’s programs discipline. (Highly Desired)

Experience

*Three (3) years administrative experience in higher education or the equivalent. (Minimum) 
*Experience in developing and implementing innovative approaches to instruction. (Minimum) 
*Substantive experience in curriculum development and faculty evaluation. (Minimum) 
*Three (3) years of full-time teaching experience in higher education. (Desired)
*Substantive experience in grant writing and grant management. (Desired)

Responsibilities and Duties

-Provide leadership to the School of Sciences, Humanities & Visual Communication. (Essential)

Curriculum Leadership
-Assume a leadership role for curriculum needs assessment & development. (Essential)
-Develop and monitor new school initiatives and related special projects. (Essential) 
-Develop programs and strategies for long-term solutions that will assist and benefit new student’s recruitment and their retention. (Essential)
-Conduct program evaluations and program review results/recommendations. (Essential)
-Recommend to the VPAA/Provost the development, implementation, continuance, revision or phase-out of academic programs. (Essential)
-Explore, develop and direct the articulation process with appropriate institutions. (Essential)
-Assure accurate and timely preparation and documentation of catalog revisions. (Essential) 
-Develop and oversee outcomes assessment for the school. (Essential)
-Coordinate accreditation process and requirements specific to school programs. (Essential) 
-In coordination with Assistant Dean and department heads, develop master schedule and respond to faculty/contractual requests/requirements. (Essential)

Recruitment & Retention
-Supervise the school marketing activities in coordination with the Public Relations & Marketing and Admissions offices. (Essential) 
-Oversee the School’s activities for visitors including annual events like Fall and Spring Open House. (Essential)
-Oversee School tours, student orientation, and scheduling of new students. (Essential) 
-Resolve student issues/problems within the school. (Essential)

Personnel
-In conjunction with Assistant Dean, prepare job descriptions; recruit in coordination with Human Resources, interview, and recommend for hire new faculty & staff. (Essential) 
-Orient new faculty & staff. (Essential)
-Evaluate all probationary faculty and oversee evaluation of non-probationary faculty according to faculty evaluation plan. (Essential)
-Assume responsibility for school personnel issues and decisions after consultation with Human Resources. (Essential)
-Supervise and evaluate staff under his/her supervision. (Essential) 
-Assure effective orientation of faculty advisors. (Essential)
-Provide leadership and support for faculty & staff within the school for continued professional growth and development. (Essential)
-Whenever possible anticipate faculty issues/problems and intervene for prompt resolution. (Essential)
-Become familiar with the College Education Association agreement and assure school compliance with all parameters. (Essential)

Planning and Budgeting
-Lead the collaborative development and execution of the School’s four-year plan. (Essential)
-Define budget parameters on an annual basis using enrollment projections, faculty & staff input and institutional initiatives with assistance from the Assistant Dean. (Essential)
-Update on a systematic basis the capital and operating needs for the school. (Essential)
-Supervise facilities & equipment; recommend changes/upgrades; monitor utilization and development as required. (Essential)
-Guide departmental leadership of curriculum advisory committees. (Marginal)
-Establish and facilitate business/industry/other education contacts associated with the instructional process. (Essential)
-Coordinate with Institutional Advancement for grants and donations, including development of specifications, guiding the purchasing process, and closeout. (Essential)
-Provide leadership for non-credit activities within the school. (Essential)
