Founded in 1869 and located in Orangeburg, SC, Claflin University, a historically black university, is an independent, comprehensive, co-educational, residential, career-oriented liberal-arts university affiliated with the United Methodist Church. With approximately 2,100 students and 120 full-time faculty, Claflin boasts four academic schools (including the School of Business), the Alice Carson Tisdale Honors College, and the Center for Professional and Continuing Studies. The University offers 36 undergraduate majors, four graduate degrees, and seven online degrees. U.S. News & World Report has recognized Claflin for a number of years as one of “America’s Best Colleges” because of the University’s reputation for academic achievement, retention and graduation rates, faculty distinction, accreditation, and the many internships and scholarships offered to deserving students. U.S. News has ranked Claflin as the 8th best HBCU in the nation.
The School of Business is nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration, Management, Marketing, and Organizational Management. The School has 14 faculty members and approximately 400-500 students, the second highest number of majors at the University.
We are searching for a dynamic, entrepreneurial, innovative leader of vision who will play a pivotal role in long-range academic and strategic planning, maintaining program accreditation, curricular planning, fundraising, developing corporate partnerships, fostering productive external relationships, and growing the School’s educational offerings. As a member of the academic leadership team, the Dean of the School of Business, will report directly to the Provost and Chief Academic Officer.
The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate in finance, economics, business administration or one of the disciplines in the School of Business coupled with a sustained record of accomplishments. Candidates with outstanding corporate experiences and achievements will also be considered. This creative and global visionary will have demonstrated experiences in fundraising and developing major corporate partnerships. Along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the Dean will be expected to have a leadership style characterized by innovation, transparency and professional integrity that inspires cooperation, innovation, creativity, and respect among faculty, students, administrators, and staff. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
