Job Summary

Directs, administers, and provides support for faculty and student research and sponsored projects. Develops and provides leadership and strategic planning for the College of Graduate Studies.

Roseman University of Health Sciences, a non-profit, private institution of higher learning seeks qualified applicants to fill the position of Vice President for Research & Dean of the College of Graduate Studies. Applicants should have a terminal degree of PhD, MD, DDS, PharmD, or equivalent. They should have experience and activities in teaching, research, administration and service. Candidates should have experience in responsible academic administrative leadership positions. 

The Vice President for Research & Dean of the College of Graduate Studies will report to the University President and will be responsible for facilitating the development and providing overall leadership and oversight for research activities and programs within the College of Graduate Studies. As Vice President for Research, this person will coordinate and promote research and scholarly activities across the University including ensuring compliance and intellectual property issues. As Dean of Graduate Studies, this person will help develop, administer, and coordinate the programs of the newly created College of Graduate Studies.

Roseman University is a graduate health sciences university founded in Henderson, Nevada in 1999 with a College of Pharmacy. We have experienced phenomenal growth and now consist of a College of Pharmacy, Nursing, Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, Medicine, and MBA program. We have locations on three campuses located in Henderson and Summerlin, NV and South Jordan, UT. The University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

As Vice President for Research:

  • Coordinates research and scholarly activities across the University.

  • Serves as a member of the University's Administrative Council.

  • Provides administrative reviews and approves research proposals for University commitments including budgets, personnel, animals, human subjects, facilities, and hazardous materials.

  • Provides administrative support to research-related University committees including the Institutional Review Board, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and the Committee on Chemical, Biological, and Radiation Safety.

  • Reviews, revises, and administers University policies relating to research and scholarly activity.

  • Ensures University compliance with Federal, state and local laws and regulations related to research activities.

  • Prepares and manages unit budget.

  • Supervises staff assigned to the research and graduate studies units; provides scholarly mentorship to faculty.

  • Works with Facilities and the Business office to maintain laboratory equipment and to ensure service contracts are in place as appropriate.

  • Oversees, facilitates, and administers policies related to the protection of intellectual property development at the University.

  • Maintains appropriate accreditations and keeps up to date on internal and external policies related to research.

  • Leads and promotes efforts to establish, promote, and maintain collaboration and interdisciplinary research among Roseman faculty, Roseman Colleges and other institutions.

  • Assists faculty in securing grant funding for scholarship and research activities.

  • Identifies funding sources that align with the capability and needs of the university, faculty, and students.

As Dean of the College of Graduate Studies:

  • Administers the programs of the College of Graduate Studies in a manner consistent with the CGS Handbook.

  • Coordinates graduate programs with all other academic units.

  • Approves the appointment of graduate faculty members.

  • Serves as Chair of the Graduate Council.

  • Serves as the presiding officer for meetings of the Graduate Faculty.

  • Ensures compliance of all College of Graduate Studies programs with standards for student admission, and graduation requirements.

  • Approves the appointment of College of Graduate Studies committees and coordinates with academic units in all matters concerning graduate work

  • Serves as a member of the university's Deans and Directors committee.

  • Reviews budgetary planning and resource allocation for graduate programming.

  • Prepares and manages the budget of the College of Graduate Studies.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.

  • Reliable and timely with the expectation of 40+hours per week on site.

  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Demonstrated accomplishments and success in the areas of grant writing, scholarship and academic publication. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to provide leadership to increase the support for graduate programs, scholarly activity, and externally funded research.

  • Ability to identify current and future challenges and think creatively and innovatively to develop feasible solutions

  • Demonstrated commitment to and vision for graduate education at the Master's and PhD levels.

  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate both internal and external collaborative research efforts.

  • Strong administrative and managerial skills.

  • Knowledge of various federal, state, and philanthropic funding sources and mechanisms.

  • Embodies service leadership with a commitment to the success of his/her direct reports, the College of Graduate Studies, research and researchers across the University and the University as a whole.

  • High level of problem-solving ability with the ability to work with other leaders in the University to accomplish common goals.

Requirements

Doctorate or appropriate terminal degree plus four years of progressively responsible work experience, preferably with PhD level graduate programs, including a minimum of two years leading and/or supervising the work of others; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. History of successful grant funding at the national level preferably with NIH, NSF or other governmental agencies. Maintenance of active research is highly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with academic administrative experience at the level of Associate Dean/Dean at a minimum. 

Work Conditions

  • Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between local campus buildings, off campus, and to other Roseman University facilities out-of-state

  • Performing duties and attending events outside the normally scheduled work hours occasionally occurs and is required

  • Traveling off-campus to a local, state, regional and/or national event, as well as travel to other Roseman campuses or facilities occurs occasionally and is required

  • Incumbent may be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones, office machines, and nearby oral communications among University personnel and/or students

Required Physical Abilities

  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, move from one area of the building to another on a regular basis, sit and use a computer for a long period of time

  • Manual and physical dexterity needed to operate a computer keyboard and handle paper documents

  • Sufficient near vision acuity to read information appearing on computer display screen, hand-written forms, and printed on paper

  • Adequate hearing and verbal abilities to communicate effectively in person and by telephone

  • Ability to lift and carry a stack of forms and documents weighing up to 25 pounds

  • Be physically able to work in a laboratory setting
