The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applications for a full-time position as the Associate Dean of External Relations with a start date of July 1, 2019.
The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business includes three schools: the School of Hotel Administration (SHA), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson). The college delivers undergraduate, graduate, and professional business programs and initiatives creating collaborative, comprehensive business management practices with roughly 240 faculty, 900 staff and more than 3,200 students.
The Associate Dean for External Relations will continue to advance the SC Johnson College of Business as a top-tier workplace for faculty and staff through the oversight and management of corporate relationships, global strategy and partnerships, non-degree external and executive education and collaboration with Centers and Institutes. In addition to leading and coordinating these functions, this role will liaison with the College's career services and placement efforts as well as alumni affairs and development. He/she will lead the strategy for all external associations and partnerships for the College that enhance the reputation and revenue profile.
The role requires a bold, methodical and innovative leader, with the highest level of integrity, who brings proven management experience, as well as a progressive approach to developing deep industry connections and relationships in support the college's mission. The position will be a skilled relationship builder, both internally to the college, across key stakeholders within the University and externally with corporate engagement. It will be critical for this role to understand a complex, multi-stakeholder, matrix structured organization that has centralized and decentralized multi-campus operations. The Associate Dean will oversee several non-academic areas within the College enhancing the collaboration between the three schools.
Reporting to the Dean of the SC Johnson College of Business, this role will also serve on the Dean's senior leadership team. Critical success factors for this position include strategic thinking, international relations, contract management and negotiations, effective communication skills, strong technology competencies, integrity, innovative practices and the ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment.

Required qualifications for this position include a master's degree in business administration, international relations, law or a related discipline or 10-15 years of equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven success with corporate relations and distance learning techniques is a must. The position requires proven leadership in managing large, complex contracts and dealing with senior executives. The successful candidate should have a proven ability to work effectively with a broad and diverse population, including students, staff and faculty. Proven clear and effective written and verbal communication skills are required. S/he should have demonstrated effective leadership skills and teamwork philosophy. Effective supervisory and financial management skills are a must.
Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. degree with experience in higher education management or 10-15 years of equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven success leading complex and diverse organizations is a plus. The ideal candidate will have experience recruiting and managing staff including those who work in other countries. S/he would ideally have experience in collaboration with academic and industry-engaged centers & institutes and track record in administering and managing grants and contracts. A record of academic publication would be ideal.
