Purpose of Position
 

The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) seeks an Assistant Dean of Online Education who will report to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and work closely with senior leaders to help establish a clear vision and strategy for the online education initiatives in the college. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for collaborating with schools, faculty, and staff across the college to create, implement, and maintain high-quality online courses and programs.

The Assistant Dean will help to develop and implement strategies that are scalable and financially sustainable as the college advances online offerings in both degree and non-degree spaces. This individual will oversee the end-to-end course and program development, the overall implementation, and the day-to-day operations and management of online courses and programs in the college.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the Assistant Dean of Online Education include:

Online Program Management:

  • Provide day-to-day management and administrative oversight for all aspects of online program operations, including, but not limited to online course design and development, faculty development and resources, budgeting, operations, data collection and assessment, and reporting.

  • Help develop best practices and guidelines in online design and delivery for the college to continuously improve the quality of course design and faculty support.

  • Coordinate activities with enrollment management, recruiting, student affairs, and registrar as they pertain to development and management of online courses and programs.

  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to maintain a working relationship with Academic Partners and other external stakeholders.

Online Program Development:

  • Develop and monitor implementation and project plans for online course and program development.

  • Work closely with faculty and staff to guide the design of new online courses and programs and the conversion of existing in-person offerings.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and senior leadership to ensure proposed online courses and programs support the overall strategic vision.

Online Program Leadership & Strategy:

  • Work with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and senior leadership to create an implementation strategy for online education at the college.

  • Stay abreast of research, trends, and innovations in teaching and learning as applied to hybrid and online learning environments.

  • Develop plans to build the College's capacity for online programs, including additional staff and resources.

Other Duties

  • Track and analyze online enrollment data and trends for the college related to student persistence, success, and graduation

  • Provide administrative oversight of the online student experience for CHHS students through the student lifecycle

  • Provides strategic oversight for admissions, onboarding and orientation of all incoming CHHS online students

  • In collaboration with clinical placement office, develop procedures and policies related to student placement and field experiences

  • Advocate for the current needs of online students with external partners, campus departments, and administration and community stakeholders

  • Bring expertise and knowledge, planning, collaboration, and continuous improvement to the management of CHHS online enrollment and student services with an emphasis on efficient user-friendly support services to foster a climate of responsive service to students, colleges, and the university as a whole

Qualifications
 

General Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a master's degree (doctoral preferred), plus five to seven years of related experience in higher education, technology, online content and delivery or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated experience in online higher education administration, organization, strategic planning, and budget management.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in the areas of instructional design, curriculum development, and educational technology best practices in online and hybrid educational programs.

  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and managing online programs and initiatives in a higher education or related setting.
