Summary of Position: This position exists to provide leadership and administrative support for teaching and learning through organization of human, capital, and operational resources. Academic Affairs Dean positions oversee designated academic departments, programs and instructional personnel and provide leadership for designated divisional/college wide duties and responsibilities.

Description of Position

  • Supervision, Management and Leadership: Provide leadership and supervision for full-time faculty, professional technical and instructional staff. Evaluate and assign faculty, classified, and professional technical staff in accordance with respective performance plans. Make informed staffing recommendations to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Develop divisional and departmental leadership teams. Create, monitor and/or participate in committee work that promotes the goals of the division and instruction. Verify and approve employee contracts including part-time contracts and full-time overloads.
  • Strategic Planning: Formulate and implement strategies for instructional delivery, marketing, technology, educational support, and other initiatives through collaborative efforts with instructional faculty and staff, instructional departments and other campus constituencies.
  • Fiscal Management: Develop and Administer instructional budget in collaboration with the Vice President of Instruction, faculty, and staff. Justify and effectively manage all appropriate operating budget categories including acquisitions, maintenance, and inventory of capital. Lead, administer, and oversee grants.
  • Program Development: Initiate and coordinate instructional teams and external groups to develop and implement programs and curricula.
  • Student Resource: Serve as arbiter for student complaints, consider student requests, work with faculty to address, and resolve issues.


Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Three (3) years of college-level leadership, supervisory, fiscal and administrative experience in the previous seven (7) years.
  • One (1) year of experience in budget development and expenditure within an organizational unit.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in an academic discipline.
  • Two (2) years of administrative and/or supervisory experience in a community college.
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience at the community college level.
  • One (1) year of experience with alternative instructional delivery methods.
  • Grant experience either as a Principal Investigator or as the author of at lease one successful external grant submission.
  • Membership in or experience working in diverse communities and supporting the success of students and staff from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented in the College
  • Experience with grant development and administration.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present information to groups and in public settings and to give and receive conceptual or emotionally charged information.
  • Ability to access and use data from software and enterprise systems to produce reports for information and analysis.
  • Ability to set and accomplish shared team goals and inclusive stakeholder participation in decision making process. Sharing of ideas and learning with shared problem solving
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

COVID Protocols: At this time, masks are required in all RRCC buildings. To ensure the safety of our staff and students, this policy applies to everyone, regardless or vaccination status. RRCC will continue with face-to-face teaching and learning in the Spring 2022 semester.

Beginning on December 23, 2021, RRCC will implement COVID-19 testing requirements for faculty, staff, and students. Employees and students who work on campus, attend classes (in person or remote), access support services, or participate in other activities at our college will have the choice to provide weekly results from regular COVID-19 testing or, alternatively, provide one time evidence that they are fully vaccinated.
