ASSISTANT DEAN FOR FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION, School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS), to serve as a senior administrative leader supporting and advising the dean on key decisions involving the planning and direction of the financial, administrative, and operational activities of the school.  Responsibilities include providing high-level advice/counsel to the dean, associate dean, department heads, and administrative and financial officers regarding finance and budget, research administration, space planning, and other business-related policy matters; overseeing day-to-day financial operations of the Dean’s Office and monitoring spending of all funds in the school; directing and managing the annual budget planning process; managing budget allocation and overseeing the preparation and submission of school general budgets and fund and research volume forecasts; preparing staffing, finance, and space analyses/studies; establishing metrics to measure and manage performance and presenting findings; managing the under-recovery process; developing, recommending, and implementing financial, operational, and administrative policies/practices for SHASS; representing the dean in deliberations/negotiations associated with research proposals, gifts, contracts, etc.; managing the allocation of endowment funds and discretionary resources; and other duties as directed.  

Job Requirements:
REQUIRED:  B.A./B.S. in a related field; ten years’ high-level, directly-related administrative experience in all aspects of university administration in a management role; excellent analytical, financial, writing, organizational, and customer service skills; advanced-level knowledge of database and spreadsheet software and the concepts/principles/practices of accounting, budgeting, and sponsored research administration; knowledge of the principles/practices of strategic planning, development, and evaluation; good judgment, tact, and discretion with sensitive/confidential matters; and ability to manage changing and conflicting priorities, cultivate relationships, and work collaboratively and cross-functionally with employees at all levels.  PREFERRED:  knowledge of MIT financial and research administration policies/procedures and operational systems.  Job #21965-13
